April 15, 2022 Reporter: Song Ji-hoon, JoongAng Ilbo Yanggu County, known for its vision of becoming a “sports-specialized city”, is partnering with Nassau Co., Ltd., Korea’s leading sports brand with a 50-year legacy, to construct the nation’s first public-private partnership sports airdome. On April 14, Yanggu County Mayor Jo In-mook and Nassau Chairman Ju Eun Hyung held a signing ceremony at the Yanggu County Office, officially agreeing to install a Nassau sports airdome?developed with domestically patented technology?within the county. Yanggu becomes the first local government in Korea to pursue the construction of a sports airdome through a public-private collaboration model. The planned facility will cover an area equivalent to a full-sized soccer field (approximately 3,000 pyeong / 9,900 square meters), making it the largest sports airdome of its kind in Korea. Unlike traditional buildings with columns and retaining walls, a sports airdome uses air pressure differences between the interior and exterior to maintain its structure. This allows for easier construction, maintenance, and management, while also ensuring durability against extreme weather events such as strong winds, earthquakes, and heavy snow. The dome can even serve as an emergency shelter during natural disasters. The Nassau airdome is also notable for its eco-friendly patented materials and Korea’s only dual-membrane structure, ensuring both environmental sustainability and operational efficiency. The project builds upon the know-how Nassau has gained through three years of operating the NassauX Phantom Sports Airdome in Asan, Chungcheongnam-do. The experience in maintenance and facility management will be fully applied to the new dome in Yanggu. Mayor Jo In-mook expressed his appreciation: “We are grateful to Nassau for their commitment and vision to help advance Korean sports and support the regional economy of Yanggu.” Chairman Ju Eun Hyung of Nassau stated: “As Nassau celebrates its 50th anniversary since its founding in 1971, we are preparing for the next 50 years with new ventures like this. We promise to create a result that both Yanggu residents and Nassau can be proud of?one that brings joy to the community.” |
