2023.02.10 A Sports Airdome to Be Installed on the Rooftop Futsal Field of Lee Dong-gook FC [OSEN = Reporter Seo Jung-hwan] In the heart of Songdo, Incheon, a sports airdome will be installed on the rooftop futsal field of a commercial complex?marking the first such attempt in Korea. Nassau and Lee Dong-gook FC officially announced the signing of the agreement on the 10th. To launch its airdome business using purely domestic technology, Nassau established its subsidiary, NassauX, and has been developing technical capabilities in collaboration with Korean partners. Ensuring stability during installation and operation, as well as ease of maintenance, is critical for sports airdomes. Drawing lessons from existing airdomes in Korea and abroad, NassauX recognized challenges such as extended construction timelines and maintenance issues stemming from imported materials and overseas technologies, especially under rising exchange rates and material supply shortages. To address these, the company focused on construction based on domestically developed technologies and materials. Lee Dong-gook FC is a youth football club operated by former K-League legend Lee Dong-gook, who famously had his number 20 jersey retired by Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors. He is also widely known as "Daebak's dad." The club currently uses two futsal fields located on the rooftop of Triple Street, a commercial complex in Yeonsu-gu, Songdo, Incheon. Through this agreement, NassauX will install a sports airdome using patented domestic materials and technologies that offer antibacterial, deodorizing, and endocrine-disrupting chemical-reducing properties. As a result, Lee Dong-gook FC will be able to operate its youth training programs year-round, unaffected by weather, seasonal changes, or fine dust. Moreover, since the facility can operate 24 hours a day, it can also serve as a training ground for adult and elite players after working hours. Lee Dong-gook, CEO of Lee Dong-gook FC, stated, "I’ve always wanted to create an environment where kids can train regardless of the weather. Although I’ve been exploring options for some time and received various recommendations, I chose to partner with NassauX because of their patented domestic materials and construction technology, which are better suited for long-term management and operation. Since this is the first of its kind, I hope to establish a strong model that allows kids to play freely." Jung Ui-seok, CEO of NassauX, remarked, "This project holds great significance, as it involves building a sports airdome using domestic technology on the rooftop of a commercial facility in a city center. In line with the reputation of Lee Dong-gook, a representative figure of the K-League, we aim to create a flagship sports airdome that will help energize Korea’s sports industry." / jasonseo34@osen.co.kr |
